Pet policy

No dogs or other animals are allowed at the event for both racer and pet safety. While we love our animal friends, this event is very crowded and even the most outgoing pet can become overwhelmed by the throngs of people and the noise. This event is held near a major highway. We certainly don't want them to get scared and run away. In addition, we don't want to risk exposing your pet to human foods that might be available at the event which could unknowingly pose a risk of poisoning or intestinal obstruction in our fur friends. Lastly, we want to be respectful of those who may be allergic or fearful of animals so that everyone can feel safe and comfortable.

Our Mission

The Newtown Turkey Trot provides essential funds to maintain the library and provide programming initiatives.  Funds raised from your participation will support the C.H. Booth Library’s mission to promote the joy of lifelong learning, stimulate curiosity, support the exchange of ideas, and provide a welcoming gathering place.

The Turkey Trot has grown over the years to become a popular holiday tradition for our community.  It presents an opportunity for family and friends to share a common experience while supporting a vital community resource. Your support and involvement with this year’s event sends a message that the library matters to our community.

Course Description

The Newtown 5K Turkey Trot Road Race and Fun Walk is an annual benefit for the C.H. Booth Library. Held in the scenic and historic center of Newtown, Connecticut. The Turkey Trot has become a community tradition and highlight for many families over the Thanksgiving weekend.  The course works its way out of town on the Boulevard and loops back past the fire house and shops before circling around Wendover Road and back to the middle school.  The result is a course that is mostly flat with a few gentle hills while it loops through local neighborhoods in the center of town. Additionally, the course starts and ends at Newtown Middle School, providing a single point for spectators to support the runners. Walkers will be provided a similar, shorter course that will also begin and end at the same location.
